UFRGS SOCIOLOGY EGRESS WINS SOBER AWARD OF BEST THEOSIS

The Brazilian Society of Rural Economy, Administration and Sociology (Sober) will grant on July 28, 2025, during its 63rd Congress at the University of Passo Fundo (RS), the Prize José Gomes da Silva to sociologist ANDRÉ LUIZ DE SOUZA By thesis "The construction of autonomy through relations with markets: a study on surrounding strategies in the surrounding rodolfo Henrique, west of Paraná", defended in the PPG in UFRGS sociology under the teacher's guidance Sérgio Schneider.
The study shows that settled families are still mostly dependent on business cooperatives and middlemen to sell their production, which limits options and restricts economic autonomy; Institutional and proximity channels remain poorly affordable.
Currently professor at the Acre Federal Institute (IFAC), Souza coordinates extension projects in Agroecology and Research on Sociiobiodiversity Markets, expanding discussions started in the thesis and connecting them to the demands of the Western Amazon.
