IFCH SEDIA VII Infernal Week with the theme “From sublime to grotesque”

Between October 15 and 17, 2025, the UFRGS Institute of Philosophy and Human Sciences will be headquartered by the VII Infernal Week, which in this edition has as its theme "from sublime to grotesque". With a multidisciplinary character, the event will bring together communications and conferences that address different areas of knowledge, with extensive temporal and cultural scope.
The organization is the result of a partnership between the Eastern Antiquity Studies Laboratory (Leao/UFRGS), the Medieval and Renaissance History Group (Virtù/UFSM), the Interdisciplinary Center for Medieval Studies (Meridianum/UFSC) and the Medieval History Study Laboratory and Laboratory (Lepehme/Unipampa).
The more than 40 communication tables are distributed in nine thematic sessions, involving studies on witchcraft, witchcraft, magic, possessions, heresies, infernal and demonic representations, in addition to the categories of beautiful, sublime, grotesque, abject and monstrous.
The event will feature two conferences:
October 15, at 19h - "The grotesque, barbarism and violence: some looks at the contemporary", with Professor Rogério Caetano de Almeida (UTFPR).
October 17, at 19h - "Voice, Soul and Culture: Comments on some Brazilian paintings", with Professor Paulo César Ribeiro Gomes (UFRGS).
Listeners registrations are free and can be made until October 15 through Sympla. The full schedule is available on the official website of the event:
