Note of condolence for the death of professor Odaci Luiz Coradini

Note of Regret

The IFCH expresses its deep regret at the death of retired professor Odaci Luiz Coradini. Son of farmers from the interior of Rio Grande do Sul, Coradini graduated in Geography at Unijuí, the University where he also taught. In 1979 he completed his Master's degree in Political Science at UFMG and, in 1989, his Doctorate in Anthropology at the National Museum/UFRJ. He developed a plural and excellent career as a researcher in the Social Sciences, moving between studies on the agrarian universe and work on political and cultural elites, strongly influenced by Pierre Bourdieu and French Political Sociology.

In addition to a canonical application of French references, Coradini stood out for his analytical and methodological rigor, problematizing the limits of transposing Bourdinian notions to the Brazilian context. In this sense, he guided both the rigor in the guidance of the countless theses and dissertations, as well as his own works. Internationally recognized in several publications, his latest research was dedicated to the relationships between schooling, social and political position, including a comparative perspective between different countries.

For his former students, advisees and colleagues, Coradini remains an incomparable reference of dedication, intellectual honesty and conviction in the practice of social sciences.
