Public success marks event in honor of Frantz Fanon's centenary

The Postgraduate Program in Social Anthropology at UFRGS (PPGAS), in partnership with PROAFE/UFRGS, Camp, Flup, Vida Brasil and other institutions and collectives involved in the anti-colonial agenda, held on November 24th the Frantz Fanon Centenary event: for an anti-colonial struggle, in the UFRGS Architecture Auditorium. The activity had a completely packed auditorium and the presence of a large audience in the surrounding area, demonstrating the interest and relevance of Fanon's thoughts.
The program had an institutional opening with representatives from the Rectory and the Pro-Rectory of Affirmative Actions and Equity (PROAFE/UFRGS), reinforcing the University's commitment to anti-racist and equity agendas. The artistic presentations by Nina Fola and Loua Paco created an environment of aesthetic and political sensitivity that marked the beginning of the meeting.
The central dialogue featured Mireille Fanon (Fundação Fanon, France), daughter of Frantz Fanon, and Deivison Faustino (USP), two international references in the debate on coloniality, racism and emancipation. The mediation was led by Handerson Joseph (PPGAS-UFRGS), who articulated reflections on the contemporary urgency of anti-colonial struggles and the role of the University in the production of critical knowledge.
As part of the international call from the Fondation Frantz Fanon, based in Paris, the event brought together researchers, artists, students and the external community, reaffirming the commitment of PPGAS and IFCH to plural debates, social justice and democratic transformation.
