Ethiopia sends 200 peacekeepers to South Sudan

Ethiopia sent 200 peacekeepers over the weekend to South Sudan to help stabilize the war-torn east African nation, an Ethiopian official said on Tuesday.The country’s foreign affairs minister, Meles Alem was quoted saying the peacekeepers were sent in line with a United Nations resolution to stabilize South Sudan.South Sudan, the world’s youngest nation, has been embroiled in a major conflict since December 2013, after clashes between forces loyal to President Salva Kiir and the country’s former deputy president, Riek Machar, spiraled into an all-out civil war.

Weah to face Boakai in Liberia presidential runoff

Ex-footballer George Weah is expected to face Liberian Vice President Joseph Boakai in a runoff for the country’s presidency, after no candidate gained an absolute majority in the October 10 election. With 95 percent of the votes counted, the National Election Commission said on Sunday that Weah led with 39 percent of the vote, while Boakai had gained 29 percent. A second round between the pair has been set for 7 November.
