On the July 10th, at 4 p.m., in the Faculdade de Ciências Econômicas of UFRGS, the Rear-Admiral Antonio Ruy de Almeida Silva, Doctor in International Relations by the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro e Coordinator of the Post-Graduation studies program of the Escola Superior de Guerra (ESG), held a lecture on the “South-Atlantic: political-strategical aspects”.
The lecture was promoted by NERINT and CEBRAFRICA/UFRGS, and was heard by africanist students of the graduation and post-graduation programs of the University, and interested public in general.

The presence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at last month’s Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) summit in Liberia was a clear sign of strengthened ties between Israel and the African organisation. Netanyahu became the first ever non-African head of state to address the ECOWAS summit. The upcoming Africa-Israel summit in Togo this October represents an advanced stage of normalisation between Israel and West African countries.
The African Union (A.U.) will send its peace and security commissioner to Eritrea in the wake of the country’s border tension with neighbouring Djibouti. According to the Reuters correspondent covering Ethiopia and the A.U., Moussa Faki Mahamat said Ambassador Smail Chergui will go to Asmara to meet authorities over the tensions. Djibouti on Monday through its foreign affairs minister asked the continent’s political bloc to deploy observers along its disputed border with Eritrea after Qatar withdrew its peace-keeping troops two weeks ago.
